Thank you, Obama

At the early age of eight years old, Obama became my inspiration. I watched his debates in awe –amazed by his articulation, eloquence, intelligence, and concern for the wellbeing of our nation. Above my desk hung a picture of Obama's face next to a sticker that read "Keep Hope Alive". I read Obama's The Audacity of Hope to the best of my ability, knowing well that although there were certain social, political, and economic policies I did not understand, Obama was the best candidate for the presidency. I like to think I was the most politically aware eight year old out there.

Nine years later, it's difficult to see the man who legalized same-sex marriage, brought the percentage of uninsured Americans to an all-time low, and significantly improved our economy leave the presidency. In times like this, it's easy to feel dejected, unheard, and as though the nation is regressing. But it's important to keep in mind that before his presidency, Barack Obama was a citizen, like you and me. So remember: all it takes to create positive change in this nation is a citizen.
